Advanced Placement Classes
AP classes are counted on a 5.0 scale, ONLY when the entire year is completed AND the AP test at the end of the end is taken. If either one of those requirements are not met, the class will count on a 4.0 scale.
AP Language and Composition (11th grade) - Ms. Metts
Students making below a B in a previous English class would struggle in AP Language and Composition and possibly end up hurting their GPA. These students should consider taking a regular English class.

AP Literature (12th grade) - Ms. Metts
AP English Literature and Composition will be a demanding college-level course, and you will be expected to function at a higher level than you ever have before. I will guide, support, and coach you, but you must become an independent thinker and worker in many ways. To acquaint yourself with the general description and expectations for the AP English Literature and Composition course, I recommend that you visit the College Board Advanced Placement Program web-site and then read specifically about the AP English Literature course. There you will also find study skills, reading tips, sample questions, and other information about the exam and the course.

American History and World History. There is a summer assignment.
Course description - In AP U.S. History, students investigate significant events, individuals, developments, and processes in nine historical periods from approximately 1491 to the present. Students develop and use the same skills and methods employed by historians: analyzing primary and secondary sources; developing historical arguments; making historical connections; and utilizing reasoning about comparison, causation, and continuity and change. The course also provides eight themes that students explore throughout the course in order to make connections among historical developments in different times and places: American and national identity; work, exchange, and technology; geography and the environment; migration and settlement; politics and power; America in the world; American and regional culture; and social structures.

College Concurrent Credit Classes
College classes are counted on a 4.0 scale, but a semester concurrent class is counted as 1 credit. This means when calculating GPA, the college credit classes count two times.

Must have at least a 19 on the English portion AND Reading portion of the ACT to take this class.
